Lace Forbidden

Lace Forbidden is a visual and tangible documentation of the silenced voices of Iran’s women, who today, are not permitted to sing or perform solo in public.

Throughout history Iranian women have used their looms, hands, threads and needles to silently express the unexpressed. In Lace Forbidden, through a series of experimental woven and typographic pieces using the same thread, the same hands and the same needles, the project attempts to weave together their presence, their struggle, their freedom, revealing their song which has not been permitted to be heard for over three decades.
